Just the highlights

Friday afternoon, the Museum of the City of New York, on the West Side, right across the street from Central Park. A great exhibit of nature photos--large-scale color--of all the parks in the city.

Friday night, dinner at a Cuban restaurant in the Village, and Saturday lunch on Staten Island at a restaurant recommended by a man walking his dog near a farmer's market.

We were the only lunch customers, and we took the advice (well, it was stronger than advice; if we hesitated, she told us what we wanted) of the waitress/manager. Bridget had cucumber (pickle) soup (served hot), I had some of the best split pea soup I have had since Dad's ham soup, and Tom had barley soup. All of them were wonderful and enough for a meal, but we kept going. Bridget and I had pierogies with homemade sour cream. They were light and tender, and straight from the oven (or hot oil).

Tom had bigos, a saukerkraut and sausage mixture with mashed potatoes. I wish Ed had been with us. With the two plates of pierogies, we had 12 left for Bridget to take home, and we were still stuffed.
Back to Manhattan and over to the West Side, where we toured the Intrepid. The highlight of that was a volunteer who had flown planes in WWII and landed on carriers. I learned about catapulting planes into flight, the importance of steam, and the components made by the Cowley machine shop for launching and catapult systems.

Saturday night Martin met us for dinner about a block from Bridget's apartment. We started at an Irish bar, but moved for dinner across the street for Indian food--four different dinners, shared by all, although Tom had to do the lion's share on Bridget's level-1 hot chicken dish.

Sunday morning we made a trip to a hardware store so that Bridget and Tom could buy a masonry drill bit to drill holes for hanging pictures and Jerry's plates on her walls.
