Labor Day

The happiest runner in the neighborhood started out the weekend with a 5K race through the streets of Kentlands. There were a lot of ringers in the over 70 age group, but Tom stuck to his plan and ran his own race, placing third in the 70-74 age group, and third in the 70-99 age group. Pace: 9:03 min/mile, using the Galloway run/walk technique. Overall placement: 475 out of 1,287 runners.

That was yesterday. Today we went to our first Nationals game of the season. They won, with two homeruns in the 9th inning, to come from behind after a less than stellar 8th inning. Our seats were perfect, up high enough for a good breeze, right behind home plate, and in the shade.

We went hungry and paid for it:

  • Two chili hotdogs and a bottle of coke: $15.50
  • Chili cheeseburger, fries, and a coke: $16
  • Two small soft ice cream cones: $8

Was there anything redeeming about that menu?

At least at home we have tomatoes.

Squirrels: about a dozen perfect tomatoes. Tom: about a bushel.
